The Artist
Sangeeta Sharma is a student of the renowned choreographer – the late Pandit Narendra Sharma. An Indian contemporary dancer for over 21 years, she is also a choreographer and is presently the Assistant Director of Bhoomika, a professional dance company. She is an empanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and a recipient of the Junior Fellowship in 1996 and the Senior Fellowship in 2008 from the Department of Culture, Government of India.
She has been performing regularly with Bhoomika's troupe, both in India and abroad. She has also worked collaboratively with filmmakers, visual artists, and theatre directors in choreographing their plays.
Sangeeta Sharma says ..... ......
Creative dance can encourage people to explore, to discover, the numerous wonderful ways, in which their body can move. It can constantly challenge their physical and mental boundaries to reach somewhere beyond...
To me dance is a means of sharing, of achieving and of expressing all types of feelings.Working with professionals and nonprofessionals, with a formal or informal presentation – I began to recognize & develop both aesthetic and social values.
I explored the dynamic interaction between the audience and the performer.
Contemporary Indian Dance is a lifelong commitment for me. It weaves in modern Indian sensibilities. Its whole scenario is passing through the challenges of 21st century. The vocabulary and the settings are changing ...., for example, dancers today are exploring movement disciplines through Yoga, Martial Arts, Chhau etc.
